A little something about me…

I’ve been making ever since I was small! You could always find me happily absorbed in craft projects; quilling, fimo, decoupage… to name a few. I was always experimenting with different materials melting wax to create flowers! ( not sure how safe that was!), marbling with PVA! I can’t imagine a life without creativity !

I still enjoy experimenting with different materials and craft is still at the heart of what I do, but it`s about making the craft my own and I do that through play and experimentation. I now make jewellery, which I treat like wearable works of art, paper art and installations. After studying a mixed media degree in Fine Art in the friendly city of Cardiff, I moved to London to do a two year MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art. I began my degree by painting, but soon started creating miniature paper installations and by the time I started my MA I was creating room sized textile installations. I now use a mixture of fabric, paper, wood, perspex, which I laser cut to create my work.

I am passionate about spreading the word about how wonderful creativity is! so I do lots of workshops and projects with different communities from school children to adults suffering with mental health difficulties. I have recently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy, which I loved!

The vanity of small differences…

I love Grayson Perry even more after hearing the radio 4 reith Lectures and so i was so excited to see the tapestries in real life (I`d seen the documentary about them on channel 4, where he was gathering inspiration for the work)

The detail and colour is amazing! Here is a taster……

Reflecting..

Happy new year! I`ve not made too many resolutions so far I don`t think the new year feeling has properly sunk in, but reflecting on my favourite bits from 2013 reminds me of what a lovely year it has been!…here are my top five highlights…

1.Top on my list has to be my new studio…I`ve had a break from it over christmas and am really looking forward to getting back in there!

2. France and in particular my visit to the beautiful island of Ille de Re, my spring/summer collection 2014 is named after this island, ( I`ll give you a sneak preview of that collection soon!)

3. The inspiring buildings of Portugal

4.My visit to beautiful Blackwell House and now my jewellery is sold there!

5. And my final highlight… I started my patchwork quilt last January and recently I `ve been inspired to start up again and it`s been making my winter evenings so cosy…this was where I was last year…..

and now….(i still have a long way to go!)

Hope you`ve had time to reflect on 2013…

Inspiration for the home….

Happy Christmas!

I don`t know about you but I was desperate to relax and spend some time at home…I love all the different seasons, but Winter to me is about cosy fires lots of food..warmth and comfort with a backdrop of snow…

this year the backdrop has been wind and rain! but a snowy winter is filled with so much inspiration! I always spend more time at home at Christmas, which makes me appreciate my home even more …I think a home looks even cosier with a christmas tree so when it goes it feels as if something is missing! I`v e put together some of my favourite things to fill this gap!…

These cushions by Donna Wilson are adorable!…

What could be more homey than this lovely fruit bowl…by Cath Ford

I love the Parisian designer Nathalie Lete…I would love her beautiful silk screen print,“The Big Party,” for my picture wall..

I`ve loved Rob Ryan`s work for quite some time and everyone needs a calender- it`s so reasonably priced too…

And this is so cute….by katie Viggers

but just because it`s winter doesn`t mean we can`t spend time in our garden MySmartBuy has some helpful tips on selecting the right shade for your garden, so you can enjoy it whatever the weather. Below is my perfect winter garden…I can but dream!

Little break…

I`ve been so busy lately, but I was so glad we`d booked to go away a while ago otherwise I might not have gone…It was just a night in Oxford and a night in London, but it felt so nice to wander around the university buildings in Oxford and visit old haunts and new ones in London.

The architecture and in particular the windows in Oxford inspired me so much..

I can`t visit London without going to my favourite ribbon shop….and can not resist buying a ribbon that I may never need or use!

After a ribbon shop we strolled to the Wallace Collection (another favourite place) to relax and eat their amazing cakes! I stayed in a part of London I wasn`t familiar with and found this amazing old dairy building with these beautiful images…

CUT exhibition at Islington Mill…

I`ve been playing with laser cut paper over the past weeks, sculpting different shapes…I would love to fill the whole space with laser cut paper shapes, so this exhibition feels like the start of this idea! Here is a little look ……
